I have to confess that I have never read a book written by Agatha Christie. I first became acquainted with her through a Miss Marple BBC mystery. Combine a good mystery and period drama and I was hooked! This led to renting more Miss Marple mysteries until I had bought the entire Joan Hickson set through Amazon. Ms Christie has such a marvelous way of leading you down the garden path throughout the story - making you think - "He has to be the one who did it!" or "Nope, it was her." I never once guessed the correct one!
Here are my two favorite Agatha Christie characters.
Miss Jane Marple
Miss Marple has had many faces throughout her life on film but, to me, my very favorite is Joan Hickson. She played the elderly, gossipy, very observant spinster to a "T". As well as assisting (and sometimes irritating) Inspector Slack and the local authorities, she could knit up a storm!

Hercule Poirot
This quirky, charmingly arrogant Belgian uses his little grey cells to solve the most perplexing of crimes. Driven from his native Belgium during World War I, he settled in England. Being a retired head of police in Belgium, it was natural to eventually become England's celebrated detective. Poirot, with a little help from Colonel Hastings, Chief Inspector Japp of Scotland Yard, and Miss Lemon, tackles crimes ranging from theft to kidnapping to murder in all walks of life:the upper class of London to country estates to archeological digs far away. David Suchet IS Hercule Poirot. From the chubby, short frame to the distinct French/Belgian accent, he is irresistible! And, please don't call him French. He will quickly correct you. "I am Belgian!"
